Court-ordered therapy services at the Center for Families in Transition include Child-Focused Family Therapy, Child & Play Therapy, Reunification Therapy and Co-Parenting Therapy.

Please be aware that CFIT providers do not provide custody evaluations or recommendations regarding parenting schedules or custody modifications, but can work with legal professionals to provide referrals for these services.

Child-Focused Family Therapy

CFIT’s family therapy services are child-centered and aim to equip parents and children with tools and skills needed throughout the divorce process. Divorce and separation are inherently stressful for parents and their children.

Our therapists support families by working to reduce conflict, improve communication, and foster strong parent-child relationships in each home. Therapy is structured based on the specific needs of the child and family context.

Parent-Child Reunification Therapy

Parent-Child Reunification Therapy addresses situations where a parent-child relationship needs to be restored, repaired, or established for the first time.
It is designed to support a secure bond between a child or children and both of their parents or significant caregivers.

A secure bond between parents and children is a significant predictor of children’s emotional, psychological, social, and physical health.

CFIT providers take a phased approach to Parent-Child Reunification Therapy and offer treatment plans customized to each family’s needs and prioritize the child’s emotional, psychological, and developmental needs.

Child & Play Therapy

Play therapy is a specialized therapeutic approach that leverages the power of play to help children process their emotions. Children, like adults, experience a wide range of emotions during divorce.

Play therapy helps them understand the many changes they and their family are going through, while also supporting parents in better meeting their children’s needs during this transition.

Co-Parenting Therapy

Co-Parenting Therapy equips parents with skills to reduce conflict and make important decisions related to their children.

Goals are often focused on improving communication, understanding or changing behaviors, reducing conflict, negotiating agreements, managing schedules, and improving discussions regarding finances.

Children are typically not involved as the focus is on improving the co-parents’ relationship with each other.
