Frequently Asked Questions

Insurance & Payment

CFIT offers a range for services which depend largely on the provider of the services’ experience and education. Rates also vary depending on the type of service being requested.

Therapy services range from $200 to $225.

Services for parent coordination and parent facilitation range from $200 to $250.

For more specific information on providers and cost of services, please reach out to [email protected].

Clients may choose to pay for services with cash, check, or credit card. Health Savings Accounts and similar options are also usually accepted, depending on the terms of the account set by the administrator of the fund. Clients will be prompted to enter a credit card number in their online client portal prior to their first session. Credit card information is stored securely in a PCI-compliant format within our electronic record system.

CFIT therapists are not in-network with insurance companies, which means we don’t bill your insurance or accept co-payments.

If you need to see an in-network provider and are NOT court-ordered to therapy services with a provider at the Center for Families in Transition, please let us know when you schedule your appointment and we will provide referrals that better fit your needs.

If you have out-of-network benefits, you pay for the session at the time of service, and we’ll give you a receipt with all the information you need to submit a claim to your insurance company for reimbursement. We will also complete any additional paperwork required by your insurer at no charge unless the forms are substantial.

Important Information About Insurance, Diagnosis, and Out-of-Network Coverage

It’s important to know that all insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis to cover psychotherapy services. If you or your family members do not meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis, your therapist will not include a diagnostic code on any receipts and your insurance provider may deny coverage for services received. Insurance companies determine coverage, NOT your therapist.

To determine eligibility for out-of-network reimbursement, ask your health insurance carrier the following:

  • Does my plan include out-of-network benefits for mental health or psychotherapy services?
  • How much does my insurance pay for an out-of-network provider?
  • What forms need to be completed to obtain reimbursement for psychotherapy with an out-of-network provider?
  • Is preauthorization or a referral required for out-of-network psychotherapy services?
  • Are there limits on the number of reimbursable sessions per year?
  • What CPT codes are eligible for reimbursement (e.g., 90791, 90834, 90837)?
  • What is the deadline for submitting out-of-network claims?
  •

The Texas Attorney General’s Office receives consumer complaints to help identify unfair or deceptive business practices, mediate disputes when appropriate, and enforce state consumer protection laws.

If you have concerns about your experience with the Center for Families in Transition, we encourage you to first share them directly with the co-owners, Dr. Becky Davenport or Ms. Katie Keith. At CFIT, we value growth, learning, and honest feedback, and welcome the opportunity to discuss and address concerns whenever possible. Many issues can be clarified or resolved through open conversation before a client chooses to pursue a formal complaint.

If concerns remain after open discussion, you may contact the Texas Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division to file a complaint.

Complaints can be submitted online by completing the Consumer Complaint Form available on the Attorney General’s website. You will be asked to provide basic information about your concern, including the business or provider involved, a description of the issue, and any relevant documentation.

For more information or to file a complaint, visit:

You may also contact the Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Hotline at 1-800-621-0508 for assistance.

The Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC) is the state agency responsible for regulating licensed Marriage and Family Therapists in Texas.

If you have concerns related to your therapist’s professional or ethical responsibilities, we encourage you to first discuss them directly with your therapist. Therapists at CFIT value accountability, growth, and ongoing learning, and welcome feedback as an opportunity to address concerns and seek resolution when possible. Open conversation can often clarify misunderstandings or resolve issues before a formal complaint is submitted to BHEC.

If concerns remain after open discussion, individuals may submit a complaint regarding the professional conduct of a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist by filing a written complaint with BHEC. Complaints must be submitted using the official form available on the BHEC website and should include identifying information for the licensee, a factual description of the alleged conduct, and any relevant supporting documentation.

Information about the complaint process, including access to the complaint form, is available at:
